Commonly Asked Questions

Who Am I?

My name is Gail Moore. I want to be clear that I am not a physician, nutritionist….or even a certified health coach. I am a school counselor who had a major health awakening 2 years ago when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was mortified when I asked doctor after doctor what I could do to make my health better…to slow progression…and reclaim my health….and I was told, “This is not your fault. There is nothing you can do.” I was given “safe websites” that I should explore, and I was told to not bother with any of the other ones…that the information I would find on them was not true. For a while, I stuck to that. Then I realized that I was completely putting my health in the hands of a doctor, who is fabulous….but only sees me once every 6 months for a ½ hour or so at a time. I LOVE this doctor. Let me repeat this. I LOVE this doctor….He is the best at what he does. He is a fabulous neurologist….and he is an excellent co-captain on my team, next to me. God is the captain. Clean-eating is the biggest, most important, part of my wellness plan. Modern medicine would not support this belief.

I realized that my health is my choice…and it was up to me to get informed and educated about all perspectives on health and well-being. It is MY job. So….I started searching…and reading. I read everything that I could get my hands on. I read books that my doctor would approve of…and books that my doctor would know nothing about. What did I find? There is a huge gap between the nutritional world and their research and the medical world and their research. I decided to exist in both of these worlds. I started by seeing a nutritionist. She immediately told me that I should be gluten-free, and she helped me to get onto an anti-inflammatory diet. I felt better quickly after giving up gluten. Things that I didn’t even realize were wrong with me got better….these were things that I just thought were part of who I am, how my body operated, and possibly bad genetics. Boy was a wrong! Two years later, I am still being seen by my neurologist, but I have also sought out the help of a Doctor of Functional Medicine. I had done so much to clean up my nutrition, but I knew that I needed testing to put science behind the dietary choices and supplements that I was taking. I was tired of the guesswork…and the cost of the guesswork! This Dr of Functional Medicine found many root causes behind my health issues…and I am currently working to improve my health. I am in awe that some of the health issues that I have had since I was 18 years old have disappeared and/or improved significantly! I truly believe that, if I had not found this doctor, my health would have continued to decline. He found many things that were wrong…all of which are fixable if I put in the work. He found things to work on after years and years of me being told by conventional medicine that my tests all came back “normal.” Having health is not something that we are just lucky enough to have…it is something that we seriously have to work hard to have.

I am not a health care professional. I am a “sick” person, in the trenches….winning my battle with Multiple Sclerosis. I am refusing to do anything but win. It has been a bumpy road, but I am in remission. My faith in God has grown immensely throughout this struggle. I could not have survived without Him to carry me when I literally could not walk. I made a promise to God that I would take everything that I have learned about health and well-being and I would use it to help others. I am not an expert….but I have learned A LOT. If you need to clean up your diet, I know of many products, diets, tricks, and recipes to help you while you adjust to a new lifestyle. And I hope and pray that my story can inspire you to clean up your diet. I hope that I can help you on your journey to health and well-being.

Clean Eating...
You satisfy me more than the richest of foods.  Psalms 63:5

What is clean eating?

Clean eating is about eating food the way that God intended it to be. Vegetables and meats are organic, meaning they are raised without pesticides, hormones and antibiotics. You will learn to read labels. If you don't know what something is that is listed on the ingredients of a product, you probably should not be eating it. You will aim to eat 6-8 cups of fruits and vegetables a day. (Don't panic...there are ways to up that veggie intake!)

Is it expensive to eat this way?

Eating clean can be expensive. There are ways that you can save, though. Aldi's has great organic and hormone-free products now! Misch Farms Meat Market is an affordable way to get all natural meats without added hormones and antibiotics. Additionally, it should be mentioned that it is very expensive to get sick. Would you rather spend your money on staying healthy and feeling good, or trying desperately to repair things after you become ill?

Will I be restricting fat and/or calories?

No. Clean eating is not all about losing weight. It is about eating foods that your body is meant to process. It is about feeding your body the foods that it needs to function well. For some people, a goal may be weight loss, and when you feed your body the right things, weight loss will come. For others, no weight loss is needed...but they know that they do not feel their best. Everyone and anyone can benefit from eating well…even if the scale says you are healthy. Weight is only one measure of health.

Why Clean-Eating?

Clean eating can help to avoid major diseases. It also can help significantly in battling diseases that you may already be fighting. If only the scale is used to measure health, some pretty significant health issues that need attention can be overlooked. Sometimes people are so used to feeling bad from the food that they eat...that they don't even realize they don't feel well until symptoms disappear with clean eating.
