One of the things that I learned from my years as a runner is the old adage that you probably have heard, "You can't out-exercise a bad diet." Let me tell you, I tested that one out! I ran 1/2 marathons...multiple ones...and never. lost. an. ounce. In fact, I gained weight during training for one of these runs. I don't have weight to lose now...but I did back then. I thought that I would get fit by running a 1/2 marathon....and, I apparently thought that I could cheat the system and keep eating poorly. I was certain that, if I was moving my body that much, I would lose weight. It just made sense.
But it doesn't. My body still needed to get the right nutrients...and I needed to lay off of the things that my body shouldn't have. My advice? During this challenge and always, don't reward a good work-out with food. If you have to have something, save your green smoothie for after your workout. Add some peanut butter or pea protein to it for added protein to help your recovery. But...whatever you do, put down the junk!
